Still, by Ines Higgins.

Ines wrote this beautiful poem during the CaronaVirus lockdown here in the UK. It really touched my heart, and she kindly agreed to let me share it with you all. If you’d like to hear more from Ines, you can subscribe to her podcast, “Intentional Purposeful Living With Ines”, or:

Still
The world was turning; I was busy.
My schedule hectic – long commutes!
Running around then crashing hard
Working tirelessly with little fruit.
Prayer was lacking; Quiet time often
Felt mundane and oh so rushed.
Then all the sudden things were changing
And all activity was hushed.
Stuck at home; no shop was open.
No restaurants; no malls or bars.
Early in the morning I hear
Birds instead of loads of cars.
Felt like the earth had stopped turning;
We were forced to slow things down.
In this time of great confusion –
I thought “I’ll either swim, or drown!”
After all the dust did settle
God said “come and walk with me!
Maybe now you just will listen
As I long to set you free!”
So I took a step back from life
Seeking God with all my heart;
Wanting nothing more but to know him
And for him Wisdom to impart.
In this time of isolation,
God has become a closer friend.
He is helping me towards freedom.
I know now I can depend.
I felt like I was in a bubble;
Protected, hidden, tucked away.
Dreams and hopes and high ambitions
Before Jesus’ feet I lay.
Though this time has caused much sorrow,
I know in my very core,
With God’s help and by his Spirit
I’ll come out stronger than before.
Remember this: The Lord our saviour
Can take our enemy’s attacks
And work them into something amazing!
Our daddy God, he has our backs.
Living beyond limitations!
