Ingredients.
For the crunch:
9 ounces sugar
10 ounces margarine
13 ounces plain flour
1 egg
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
For the sauce:
1 ½ cup sugar
4 tablespoons plane flour
2 ½ tablespoons cocoa
½ cup water
1 ½ cup milk
A few drops of vanilla
Method.
1. Preheat the oven to 170 degrees C and grease a 22 or 24 cm square tin.
2. Heat the sugar and margarine until the margarine melts.
3. Pour into a mixing bowl, and add the flour, cocoa, egg, and vanilla.
4. Put into the greased tin and bake for 25-30 minutes.
5. While the crunch is cooking, prepare the sauce by mixing the sugar, flour, and cocoa in a pan.
6. Stir in the water to blend.
7. Add the milk, and cook on medium, stirring until the sauce thickens.
8. Add the vanilla as you remove the sauce from the heat.
9. Cut the chocolate crunch into 8 pieces, serving 4 or 5 in bowls covered with the sauce, and keeping the rest back to cool for later.
Notes.
1. The crunch can be eaten hot or cold.
2. There is enough sauce to feed at least 4 people, but the crunch can be cut into 8-10 portions.
